not an easy sunday

things are not going as well as i had hoped. kimiko is not eating well despite being given the appetite stimulant and the prednisone. i gave her the first dose of the chemo pill today. since then she has only managed to keep water down. what food she has eaten has not stayed down. she does not want me to hold her as i normally do. her eyes seem distant more often than not. there are no purrs for me. she sounds so sad when meows. almost as though she is questioning why i i am not helping her, she is so frail, so weak, barely able to walk without wobbling. i am afraid the time is near. i hope i am wrong - but then again i do not want her to suffer. if it is her time, i know that i have no choice but to let her go. my heart is breaking and when kimiko leaves she will take a piece of my heart with her.

UPDATE: kimiko felt better this morning so my mood is much lighter. she even gave me a tiny weak purr for a few moments this morning before i left for church. she is still not eating much. a little wet, a little dry, a little sandwich meat (she prefers ham to turkey or chicken). we offer her most anything we think we can get her to eat. we had homecoming this morning at church. i made a pork roast w/ all the trimmings. i got her to lick a little bit of the homemade gravy off of my finger. i am hoping she is eating more dry food than what i think she is eating. with four kitties sometimes it is hard to tell how much one cat is eating. it doesn't help that tt will eat anything that doesn't eat her first. today tt ate some sour cream pound cake that i had made. does anyone else have a kitty garbage disposal? i am going to call the vet in the morning to let them know kimiko got so sick and was so weak last night. perhaps this is a side effect of the chemo. she was so sick and weak i did not give her the prednisone. tonight she will get the prednisone and her appetite stimulant.

please keep prayering for kimiko.

  1. Poor little Kimiko. Ask your vet what he/she thinks about Kimiko having some reflux - if so, ask for an antacid or something to coat her stomach and throat (sucralfate - you can crush the tablet/dose and mix with water - then syringe it into her mouth) sometimes acid reflux can really mess up appetite (the tummy acid hurts the throat and mouth) - stress can cause reflux, as can having had lots of pills and also vomiting. She's been through a lot lately. It might be worth asking, just to see if it helps her.

Sending love and rumbly purrs to Kimiko and you all

  2. I've tried Felovite 2 for my old cat and a friend of mine give it to her cat with kidney problem. It works wonder! Have you tried that? It's actually a daily vitamin and mineral supplement for cats, feed it once daily. We can't give up hope. I will pray for Kimiko. Be strong!!

  4. We're purring for Kimiko. Mom used Alternagel for one of her kitties. It helped settle her stomach and made her eat better.

  6. I am sending you and Kimko many purrs. I'm sorry that things are going rough, but chemo is not a pleasant treatment of anyone to go through. I agree with everyone else. You should talk to your vet and see if you can get something to help Kimko feel and eat better. Mom sends you many prayers.

  12. Oh my dears, we are all sending up prayers for Kimiko and you too, Mom's. If ham is what she wants, then give her ham. With our senior and/or sick cats, we have had success with the following: kitten chow, whole roasted chicken from the grocery, various sandwich meat, baby food, people tuna and tuna juice. I agree with the others, check with your vet about an antacid and food suggestions.

As for TT, I had Thomas, who ate everything except applesauce and raw onions--cooked ones were just fine, thank you. His nickname was "GC" for Garbage Can--he could open the cupboard under the kitchen sink and empty the can in 2 seconds flat!!

At the moment, I am in Tucson, cat and house sitting for my sister. Her old lady cat Goldie, who was a stray would eat anything for years--I think it's that time of not knowing when your next meal will be.

Other than all the good advice you've gotten from every one, my only suggestion is to listen to Kimiko and listen to your own heart. Both of them wii tell you when it's time. Until then, just love her and be there for her.

Love, hugs and rumbly purrs from Meepsie, Smokey and Old Mumma Jan.

  16. Just as with humans it is going to take a while for her body and mind to adjust to what is happening. It will take a while but we just bet that all of this will work itself out. I don't know if she can take this - but if her tummy is upset ask about compazine. You can get it at Walmart for one of their 4 dollar prescriptions. It is given to cancer patients for nausea.

  17. Have you tried a bit of baby food? You can mix it with a bit of water and use a syringe feeder. It might be something that requires little effort on her part and would yet give her nourishment, or even make your own with chicken in a blender. God Bless, Marian in Houston

  18. I just found your bloggie. I am going to purrr for Kimiko too. It looks like you got a lot of good advice for her appetite. Mom is not impressed with my appetite either, she gives me gerber baby food: the meats: chicken is wonderful and the ham is heavenly.

Our prayers for all of you

  19. Yes, it is very hard to watch our furries fade. But perhaps Kimiko is not ready to leave. Purrs and tail wags.
